The shift to road will result an 80% fall in carbon dioxide emissions on affected routes. The move is being facilitated by legislative reforms allowing the company to deliver 95% of domestic mail within three working days, instead of the previous stipulation that 80% of letters be delivered on the next working day.

Before treating the day as a day off, however, South Africans would do well to remember the sacrifices made to ensure that all adult citizens have the right to vote.
